Volunteers needed for annual river cleanup

By | August 16, 2016

The Friends of the Black River is sending out a call for volunteers to help with the group’s annual river cleanup. The cleanup will be held Saturday, Aug. 27. Volunteers are asked to meet at Al Young Park in Black River Falls at 8 a.m. Al Young Park is at end of South First Street.

Volunteers can clean up by paddling the river or by patrolling along the shore. Those who do not have a preference will be assigned a section of the river. Those who have a preference can let FBR Vice President Mitch Wester know where they want to patrol. Wester can be contacted by calling (715) 284-9637.

At noon, lunch will be provided to volunteers at Al Young Park.

FBR has been holding the annual river cleanup since the organization began in 2004. Along with removing garbage from the waterway that could prove hazardous, the cleanup ensures those paddling or floating on the river will be able to better enjoy the natural scenery offered by the Black River.

For more information or to indicate willingness to help, contact Wester or emailing info_fbr@yahoo.com.
