A virtual tour of petroglyphs in the Jackson County area guided by “Ernie” Boszhardt can be taken during the Friends of the Black River’s May 14 education meeting.
The program, “Hidden Thunder Rock Art of the Upper Midwest,” written by Boszhardt with artist Geri Schrab will be held in The Hub at the Lunda Community Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The community center is located at 405 State Highway 54, Black River Falls. The program is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
“I will review a sample of the sites, including Gullickson’s Glen and Silver Mound in Jackson County, with illustrations of carvings and drawings along with Schrab’s paintings, while covering aspects of history, geology and preservation,” said Boszhardt. “It introduces Wisconsin rock art and juxtaposes archaeological and artistic perspectives to a dozen sites, each interspersed with a variety of Native American reflection,”
Driftless Pathways offers tours of archaeological sites, develop interpretive exhibits and provide professional development training in curation and collections management as well as consulting services to museums and libraries on the design of new facilities and renovation of existing ones.
“Hidden Thunder Rock Art of the Upper Midwest” is one of a number of books about rock art and archaeological sites. Copies of the books will be available for purchase at the meeting.
