2008 Earth Day Clean-up
Earth Day Clean-up improves the Black River State Forest.
The Friends of the Black River held its annual Earth Day large-scale land-based trash cleanup on Saturday, April 19th. This year's cleanup was once again held in partnership with the Black River State Forest. 27 dedicated volunteers assisted in this year's cleanup, which was held in conjunction with Earth Day.
Earth Day was founded in 1970 by former Wisconsin Governor Gaylord Nelson. This was the fourth year in a row FBR has sponsored this cleanup. Cleanup participants successfully turned numerous illegal dumpsites into pristine forest.
Volunteers were treated to a free lunch at Castle Mound after the morning cleanup. Crews filled a large trash dumpster and also collected dozens of tires, a large pile of scrap iron, numerous appliances, and several bags of miscellaneous recyclables. FBR continues to promote responsible use of our natural resources. FBR’s next scheduled cleanup, the 6th Annual River Cleanup, will be held in August.
