May 13, 2009 FBR Meeting to feature Jessica Bolwahn, Coulee Region Chapter president of The Prairie Enthusiasts

5/13 Friends of the Black River’s 7 PM Wednesday evening meeting will feature Coulee Region Chapter president of The Prairie Enthusiasts Jessica Bolwahn. Also Restoration Biologist for the Mississippi Valley Conservancy, Jessica works with many community groups and individuals to identify, protect and restore prairie habitat throughout the Coulee region.

The audience will learn the history of prairies in Wisconsin, their ecology, biological diversity and extraordinary value as wildlife habitat. More than 99.8 % of original prairie and oak savanna has been lost since settlement of the region. Jessica is currently completing her masters degree program studying prairie management practices. Her focus for this photographic presentation will be the sand and bluff prairies of our region and how they contribute to the integrity of their watersheds. We will learn how organizations like The Prairie Enthusiasts are critical to this work. For more info contact FBR at info_fbr@yahoo.com
