Alan Stankevitz, Minnesota wildlife photographer and Midwest Renewable Energy Association speaker, will be featured at FBR’s Wednesday, March 11th, 7:00 PM membership meeting.  He will bring a program of his local bird images and his remarkable quest towards an energy neutral life. In 1996 Alan Stankevitz and his wife, Jo, searched for and found their perfect piece of land in southeast Minnesota. They began their adventure in building an eco-friendly, solar powered home. Named “Day Creek”, their home is a 16 sided “cordwood” home designed and constructed primarily by Alan over nearly a decade. For details of the home’s construction and many energy saving and environmentally friendly features, visit Stankevitz’ web site www.daycreek.com. Alan has documented the entire project with great photos and wonderful journal entries and included many useful insights and links for interested readers.

During Alan’s house-building adventure, he became reacquainted with his love for nature and specifically bird photography. Alan’s photography has won numerous awards (both local and national) and his photographs have been published in books, periodicals, and the internet.
Recently, Stankevitz’ photo of Sandhill Cranes in flight was featured on the Nov/Dec 2008 cover of Big River Magazine. Alan also maintains a web site, http://www.iwishicouldfly.com   focusing on his photography of bird life in the Mississippi flyway. He updates the site regularly with fabulous photos of area birds as well as insightful comments. Recent upgrades to state-of-the-art photography and recording equipment have permitted him to capture top quality images, videos and sound recordings. Alan’s journal entries include behavior observations and field identification notes not readily available elsewhere. Included on the site is an opportunity to join his e-mailing list to receive his most recent images and observations. Stankevitz’ passion for birds, wildlife, the environment and for sharing his knowledge and love of it all is evident throughout both of his beautiful, user-friendly web sites.

Please join Friends of the Black River on Wednesday, March 11, at 7:00 PM at the Coop Credit Union in Black River Falls for this outstanding program.
