Rick Kark, extraordinary Wisconsin waterway paddler, will highlight FBR’s Friday, February 6th 7:00 PM membership meeting. Kark, a retired Eau Claire physician, has devoted much of his life to pursuing his passion for navigating small rivers and streams in a solo canoe.

This will be an exceptional program of great interest to all area paddlers. Featured on public television, in outdoor publications and at paddling workshops, Kark names Halls, Morrison and Robinson creeks as all time favorites. He appreciates their “gorgeous little sandstone canyons” carved “on their way down to the Black River.”

Coupled with his love of the water is a fascination with geology. “Paddling provides a great opportunity to learn rocks, and not just by impacting with them”, he explains.

Except for whitewater trips where safety dictates the need for companions, Kark primarily paddles alone. His solo shuttles include running, bicycling, hitchhiking, his 49cc motorcycle and XC skis.

Rick brings his experience and story to river enthusiasts, watershed and conservation organizations and classrooms throughout the state. He is associated with River Alliance of Wisconsin and his presentations speak eloquently about the beauty and value of watershed resources. Do not miss this outstanding program!

Another highlight of the February meeting will be drawing of winning raffle tickets. Friends of the Black River’s bi-annual fund-raiser raffle winners will receive a Perception kayak, first place, and other prizes of $75 cash and $25 cash and $50 Scheel’s Sporting Goods coupons. Tickets are available from any FBR board member and at the meeting prior to the drawing, or by calling 715-896-4901.

As always, the public is invited to attend free of charge at the Coop Credit Union at 7:00 PM on Friday, February 6th.
