The Friends of the Black River will hold their Annual Meeting on Wednesday, October 8th at 7:00 PM at the Coop Credit Union in Black River Falls. Photographic highlights of the year will be presented and a Subway sandwich supper will be provided to attendees.

The evening speaker will be Randy Mell, the Jackson County UW Extension River Basin Educator. Randy provides expertise in local natural resource issues, helps support citizen group organizations and provides local natural resource educational programming.

Mr. Mell will be reviewing a series of "Learn About Your Land" workshops that will be offered to woodland owners this winter. These woodland owner workshops are scheduled to start in January 2009 and finish in April 2009. Workshops will be presented in Trempealeau and LaCrosse counties. The "Learn About Your Land" (LAYL) program was developed to help private woodland owners owning 10 or acres of woodland explore the complex nature of their woodland. LAYL topics that will be presented include, the benefits of planned forest management, tree planting, forest management that enhance wildlife populations, and how to conduct a timber sale.

The meeting is free and the public is invited to attend this interesting and informative event.
