July 23, 2008 FBR Meeting featuring Local Film Maker, Steve Firkins

On Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008, the Friends of the Black River monthly meeting will feature a local film maker, Steve Firkins, with original footage from two rivers, the Green in Utah and the Black here in western Wisconsin.

Steve Firkins has been living in Black River Falls for the past 20 years. He works as a mental health counselor at the Krohn Clinic. He however, has a secret life as an artist that not many in the area know about. He is a painter, sculptor, writer, photographer, and most recently a film maker. His art is connected to nature. He considers himself not only "a tree hugging environmentalist but also a cactus hugger".

Over the past 10 years he has been going regularly to the American Southwest filming the landscape of the four corners area. Firkins will premier his 37 minute film Down the Green River. The film documents a five day journey he and his companions made down the Green River in Utah's Canyonlands National Park in July of 2006.

Over the past year Firkins has been busy collecting film footage of the Black River through the four seasons. He is now in the middle of producing his next movie, Down the Black River. He will be showing some previews to this next movie.

Don’t miss this opportunity to view beautiful river film footage July 23rd at 7:00 PM in the Co-op Credit Union Community Room in Black River Falls. The meeting is free and the public is invited to attend.
