February 15th, 2009 FBR Event: 1:00 PM—Nelson Highbanks Property Snowshoe Hike

Join Friends of the Black River for a winter afternoon snowshoe hike along the banks of the Black River. Located between Black River Falls and Hatfield this 50 acre parcel was permanently protected in 2007 through the cooperative efforts of FBR, West Wisconsin Land Trust, the Wisconsin DNR and local donors. Meet at the gate at the end of Highbank Road, off of Co. Hwy K near the Morrison Creek bridge. Snowshoes are available for rent at Moe Hardware in Black River Falls.
 

February 6, 2009 FBR Event: FUND RAISER RAFFLE

perception_kayakAnother highlight of the February 6 meeting will be drawing of winning raffle tickets. Friends of the Black River’s bi-annual fund-raiser raffle winners will receive a Perception kayak, first place, and other prizes of $75 cash and $25 cash and $50 Scheel’s Sporting Goods coupons. Tickets are available from any FBR board member and at the meeting prior to the drawing, or by calling 715-896-4901.
   

February 6, 2009 FBR Event: Dinner With Rick Kark

Friends of the Black River would like to extend an invitation to all interested paddlers to join Rick Kark for dinner at the smoke-free Main Street Pub, Friday, February 6 at 5:30 PM (before the BRF meeting). The pub is located on Water Street two doors north of the stop lights. Reservations appreciated. The phone number for the Main Street Pub is 715-284-9882.

December 8, 2008 FBR Event: Christmas Party and Film

Friends of the Black river held their annual Christmas party at the Falls Cinema Theater. The featured award winning film, "Being Caribou", documents the six month epic journey of two young environmentalists as they capture on film the challenges, births and deaths encountered by the herd on their annual journey to the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge calving grounds. Also available at the event were fundraiser raffle tickets for a kayak, sporting goods coupons and cash.

Monday, December 8th, 2008 at 6:00pm. Film starts at 7:00pm. Cost is $10 and includes refreshments.

2008 Spring Paddle

small_2008-paddle-event-group1A breezy sunny day with mild temperatures made for a wonderful early spring trip down the Black River for 33 adventuresome paddlers and one dog. Friends of the Black River hosted their Annual Spring Paddle Sunday afternoon and five canoes and 23 kayaks took the challenge.
