Discover Wisconsin Films in Jackson County

“Discover Wisconsin” a weekend network television program featuring the best destinations in Wisconsin, has chosen the Black River Falls area for an April 2010 episode. Initial filming focused on one of the areas outstanding features, the Black River. Videographer, Scott Jaeger, picked a peak paddling day to begin filming on Saturday, May 30th. Recent rains plus Hatfield dam releases combined to provide some of the best whitewater paddling in the state.

Jaeger began by interviewing Dr. Jeff Polzin, Friends of the Black River board member. Polzin emphasized the unique and  pristine local waterways that offer a wide variety of paddling opportunities. “At these water levels we have some of the best whitewater wave conditions anywhere and down river we have wonderful quiet water with beautiful sandbars suitable for family outings. Some of the Black and its streams offer miles of paddling free of any man made development.“ Jaeger concurred, commenting, “The diversity of terrain creates opportunities for beautiful shots! The kayaking I shot included calm meandering river scenes as well as whitewater rapids, all in the same location. I look forward to my next trip!”

On Saturday, June 13 Discover Wisconsin videographers returned to film FBR’s Black River State Forest Mountain Bike Ride event on the Smreaker trails. A warm sunny day provided great filming of some of the states best biking and winter XC skiing trails.
