Fourth of July Events

More than two dozen festively decorated boats paraded above the Black River dam this July 4th. Fundraiser canisters were circulated during the parade and netted well over $300. This is the second year that Friends of the Black River has been named the recipient of the proceeds of this event, organized by Ken and Karen Wilkens of Black River Falls. Board members, Rollie Lee and Wally Capper were on hand to receive the donations.
New for this July 4th was a “Pond Paddle” in the Lunda Park and sponsored by FBR. Twenty eight enthusiastic children and adults tried a variety of kayaks, many for the very first time. All necessary gear was provided and folks enjoyed the expertise of FBR members, Jeff Polzin, Larry Casper, Bill Steele, Steve Rake and John Elliott. A free will offering was taken at this kayak demonstration and the $50 dollars collected was split between Friend of the Black River and Lunda Park.
