6/13, 12:45 pm First Annual FBR Mountain Bike Ride at the BRSF Smrekar Trails near Millston. Some of the state’s finest, these trails interconnect for flexible length of ride. Beginners welcome! Trail permit is required, $4 daily or $20 annual. Pay at trailhead with exact change. Directions to Smrekar trailhead and shelter: CTY Hwy O East out of Millston about 4 miles. Follow trail signs to turn North onto Smrekar Rd on half mile to T intersection. Turn left to trail parking.
Enjoy these wooded scenic trails. Remember water, snacks and bug repellent!

7/4 3rd Annual Independence Day Boat Parade on the Upper Black. 1:00 pm start. Paddlers welcome. More details to come

5/9/2009, 8:30 am RCPA Semi-Annual Roadside Cleanup. Meet at CTY Hwy O and ST Hwy 27 in Shamrock, 10 minutes south of Black River Falls. Cleanup will take one or two hours and garbage bags and orange vests will be provided. Filled bags will be collected later by RCPA. 5/9/2009, 12 pm FBR Annual Spring Paddle on the scenic East Fork of the Black River. Meet at East Fork Bridge. Beginners encouraged and shuttles available by pre-arrangement. Directions to put in: ST Hwy 54 E to CTY Hwy K. North and east on K approx. 7.5 miles. East on Clay School Rd. 4.1 miles. North on East Fork Rd. .75 miles to the East fork Bridge. Take out option #1, 2 miles down river at BRSF East fork Campground. Take out option #2, 2 additional miles at Jackson Co. East Arbutus Campground.

5/13/2009 Friends of the Black River’s 7 PM Wednesday evening meeting will feature Coulee Region Chapter president of The Prairie Enthusiasts, Jessica Bolwahn. Also Restoration Biologist for the Mississippi Valley Conservancy, Jessica works with many community groups and individuals to identify, protect and restore prairie habitat throughout the coulee region.
The audience will learn the history of prairies in Wisconsin, their ecology, biological diversity and extraordinary value as wildlife habitat. More than 99.8 % of original prairie and oak savanna has been lost since settlement of the region. Jessica is currently completing her masters degree program studying prairie management practices. Her focus for this photographic presentation will be the sand and bluff prairies of our region and how they contribute to the integrity of their watersheds. We will learn how organizations like The Prairie Enthusiasts are critical to this work.
5/16/2009, 5-10 PM at Clark County's Russel Park in Hatfield there will be an event to Welcome back Lake Arbutus! The lake is finally full, so this is indeed reason to celebrate. There will be a band performing, and this event is open to the public. The event is sponsored by the Hatfield Lake Arbutus Association.
