4th of July Events with Friends of the Black River
Friends of the Black River has a couple of events planned at the BRF Festival In The Park on the Forth of July!
1st event: Kayak demo in the pond from 12:15 to 2:30. Jeff, Larry, & Bill will be bringing their kayaks for people to play around in the pond. Anyone wishing to see the action or help can show up. Attendees will give a free will offering, split between FBR/City.
Secondly Andy Ellingson really needs help tomorrow night. Due to budget concerns, the city is really striving to increase revenues for Festival in the Park, which is a fundraiser for park maintenance. Every year a huge crowd of people gathers outside the payment collection area at the park and nearby Tyler St. to watch fireworks and listen to the music. These people don't contribute to the Festival, but may be willing to make a free will donation. The City asked a number of area non-profits to help out by doing a free will offering. The funds raised thru this extra special collection would be split 50/50 between the non-profit and City. It is a huge opportunity as you can sense. I accepted the offer, so from around 8:15 to 10 pm I'll be collecting these free will soliciations. It is really a task for more than 1 person. The city is referring to this as "crowd collections," and has advertised it heavily this week in both local papers. Volunteers will wear a FBR t-shirt, carry some sort of bag (I'm going to use a kayak dry bag. A FBR canvas tote bag would be good), and will carry a few printouts that I can provide which basically prove that this is legite. As Mayor Danielson quoted in this weeks BJ, "the great lawn is the only place people are required to pay (during the concert), Taking up free will donations outside of that area would help offset the cost of the fireworks."
